FOUNDATIONAL BELIEFS OF FREEDOM FELLOWSHIP
We believe in the verbal inspiration of the scriptures and the authority of both
the Old and New Testaments.
Psalm 119:89 (NKJV) Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly
equipped for every good work.
We believe that man was created in the image of God, through disobedience
sinned and fell, and that the entire human race shares in mans lost and
depraved nature.
Genesis 1:27 (NKJV) So God created man in His own image; in the image
of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Ephesians 4:20-24 (NKJV) But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed
you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which
grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the
spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created
according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
We believe that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God took upon Himself the
form of a man by means of the virgin birth.
Philippians 2:5-7 (NKJV) Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ
Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be
equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a
bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
We believe that atonement for sin was made by the sacrificial and
substitutional death of Jesus Christ.
1 John 4:10 (NKJV) In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved
us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
We believe that Jesus Christ, after being crucified for our sin, was placed in a
tomb, and was raised to life by the Holy Spirit on the third day.
Mark 8:31 (NKJV) And He (Jesus) began to teach them that the Son of Man
must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and
scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
We believe that Jesus Christ appeared to many of His followers and that for
forty days after His resurrection spoke of things pertaining to the kingdom of
God.
Acts 1(NKJV) The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus
began both to do and teach, 2 until the day in which He was taken up,
after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles
whom He had chosen, 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His
suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days
and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.
We believe that Jesus Christ ascended to His Father in heaven with the
Promise that He would send His Holy Spirit to the earth to empower all who
would believe Him.
Luke 24:50-51 (NKJV) And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He
lifted up His hands and blessed them. 51 Now it came to pass, while He
blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.
Acts 1:4-5 (NKJV) And being assembled together with them, He
commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise
of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly
baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many
days from now.”
We believe the Holy Spirit is the Promise of the Father our Comforter sent to
convict the world of sin, and that He places the believer in the Body of Christ,
indwells the believer, and bestows spiritual gifts to the Church.
John 14:16-18 (NKJV) And I will pray the Father, and He will give you
another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth,
whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows
Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I
will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for all believers as a definite
endowment of power for service.
Acts 1:8 (NKJV) But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has
come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for believers today and that we
are to function in those gifts as directed by the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 (NKJV) There are diversities of gifts, but the same
Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there
are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But
the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for
to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word
of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit,
to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of
miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another
different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But
one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one
individually as He wills.
We believe that one of the ordinances of the church, by the command of
Jesus Christ, is Water Baptism by immersion. We believe that water baptism
doesn’t save you, but is an act of obedience that identifies us with the body of
Christ.
Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All
authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and
make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things
that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end
of the age.” Amen.
We believe that the other ordinance of the church is the Lords Supper or
Holy Communion. It is for all believers and the elements of bread and grape
juice are symbolic. They represent the body and the blood of Jesus.
Luke 22:19-20 (NKJV) And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and
gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in
remembrance of Me.” 20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper,
saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.
We believe that salvation is the gift of God by grace alone and received by
personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that this faith is manifested in
works pleasing God.
Ephesians 2: 8-10 (NKJV) For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone
should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for
good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
We believe in the eternal salvation of the believers and in the eternal
damnation and punishment of the nonbelievers.
John 14:1-3 (NKJV) “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God,
believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were
not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go
and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself;
that where I am, there you may be also.
2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 (NKJV) …since it is a righteous thing with God to
repay with tribulation those who trouble you, 7 and to give you who are
troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His
mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know
God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9
These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of
the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes, in that Day,
to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe,
because our testimony among you was believed.
We believe that we, the church, are called to do the same works that Jesus
did.
John 14:12 (NKJV) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me,
the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do,
because I go to My Father.
Mark 16:15-18 (NKJV) And He said to them, “Go into all the world and
preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will
be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these
signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons;
they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they
drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on
the sick, and they will recover.”
Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and
forever.
We believe that the government of the church is the Five-Fold Ministry:
Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers, given to us by Jesus
Christ to equip the body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:11-12 (NKJV) And He Himself (Jesus Christ) gave some to be
apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying
of the body of Christ…
We believe in the sanctity of marriage and that marriage is between a man
and a woman.
Matthew 19:4-6 (NKJV) And He answered and said to them, “Have you not
read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’
5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be
joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?
We believe that God created us male or female.
Genesis 1:27 (NKJV) So God created man in His own image; in the image
of God He created him; male and female He created them.
We believe that abortion is murder.
Exodus 20:13 (NKJV) “You shall not murder.”
Psalm 127:3 (NKJV) Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The
fruit of the womb is a reward.
We believe in tithing and the blessings that come from being obedient to
tithe.
Malachi 3:10 (NKJV) “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there
may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such
blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.
Matthew 23:23 (NKJV) “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For
you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the
weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought
to have done, without leaving the others undone.”
We believe in a triune God. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy
Spirit. It truly is one of the great mysteries of the Bible.
Matthew 3:16-17 (NKJV) When He had been baptized, Jesus came up
immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him,
and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon
Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My
beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
1 Peter 1:1-2 (NKJV) Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of
the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, 2 elect
according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the
Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ…
We believe that the consummation of all things includes the visible, personal,
and glorious return of Jesus Christ, the Blessed Hope of the Church.
Matthew 24:30-31 (NKJV) Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in
heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the
Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31
And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will
gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the
other.
We believe that Jesus Christ established the church or ecclesia and the He is
the head of the body. There is one church, the body of Christ, consisting of
men and women from every tribe, tongue, people and nation. We believe that
each local congregation is an expression of that universal church. We believe
in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Matthew 16:18 (NKJV) And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this
rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against
it.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13 (NKJV) For as the body is one and has many
members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one
body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been
made to drink into one Spirit.
We believe that divine healing is the power of Christ to heal the sick in
answer to the prayer of faith.
James 5:14-16 (NKJV) Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the
elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in
the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the
Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be
forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another,
that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man
avails much.
We believe that worship is essential for every believer as it is defined
as a lifestyle, rather than just as an expression through singing. We
encourage everyone to worship God in spirit and in truth.
John 4:23-24 (NKJV) But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true
worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is
seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him
must worship in spirit and truth.”
